I am currently interning at Ocean Tide School in Narragansett, RI. My position here is to shadow the staffs and engage with the children as often as I can. This experience is hand-on and help me put a foot in the door of what I would want to do. Being able to be around children and help them during there worst of times and helping them towards the right path is a good feeling.
An overview of my learning and growth in the internship was my communication skills. My skills grown through each encounter with the children no matter good or bad. I was able to get to know each child personality and how to talk to them individually. Also, I was able to build a relationship with the children since this internship was so hands-on through the activities.
An impressive accomplishment that I was able to encounter was watching the children react to others and being able to communicate with them. A lot of people se the children as just trouble makers, but I walked in and saw them as if they were anyone else. I was able to communicate with the children and build a great relationship.
This internship influenced my future goals because I know that I want to help children that have been in trouble with the law. This internship was a good place to start and eye opener on what I can be getting myself into. I believe that this experience was wonderful and it keeps my drive going when talking about doing this professionally.
